I just got an email from a student who got a TOEFL Speaking Score of 29 points. The blog post will explain how the student scored so high.
TOEFL Speaking Score of 29: Initial Email Exchanges
On Sept 21, 2022, SS sent me the following email:
Hi Michael,
Please listen to, evaluate, and score my speaking practice test. Let me know which areas I need to improve on in order to score higher on the TOEFL speaking section.
On Sept 30, 2022, the student sent me the following email:
Hey,
TOEFL Speaking Score of 29: How did the student score so high on the TOEFL exam?
This student followed several steps in order to get this high score:
- He got a Free TOEFL Speaking Evaluation.
- After getting my feedback, he worked on specific delivery, language use, and topic development skills that I had highlighted.
- He took the TOEFL exam and scored 29 on the speaking section of the TOEFL iBT.
Like SS, many students (And maybe you!) do not know what they are doing wrong when they complete the speaking section of the TOEFL exam. However, once I point out what their problems are, then they can focus on improving their speaking so that they can score higher. That is exactly what happened with SS.
