How to Improve your TOEFL Concentration: Improve your overall fluency of the English language.

First, if you have limited English proficiency, you will have difficulties concentrating during the TOEFL exam. Therefore, the most important thing you can do is to improve your knowledge of the English language. For instance, you can improve your English through gaming by talking to other gamers through your headset. Maybe you could join a Toast Masters speaking group so you can develop more confidence. I know some international students who volunteer at various locations in their cities. These opportunities give them a chance to be in an environment in which English is spoken. Whatever it takes, find opportunities to use Engllish with native speakers.

Second, what if you had complete mastery over 1,700 basic and college-level vocabulary words? In a few as two months, you can that achieve mastery. Download my TOEFL Vocabulary PDF today for free. Then spend 1-2 hours daily for the next 8 weeks learning those words. Expanding your vocabulary will help you to concentrate much better during the TOEFL exam.

Spend about 90 minutes a day reading and listening to passages.

Third, you should be spending 45 minutes a day reading magazines, books, and newspapers. That is right.  You should be reading authentic reading materials. These reading materials do not have to relate to the TOEFL exam. In addition, spend about 45 minutes daily listening to science, documentary, news, and history programs. As you do your listening and reading practice, engage in these practice activities for about 2.5 months:

  • Take notes on the main and most important support points
  • Record yourself using your notes to orally summarize the passages in 60 second segments
  • Using your notes, write 150-250 words responses of the passages

Indeed, this type of listening, reading, note-taking, speaking, and writing practice in an effective way to Improve your TOEFL concentration.

Get familiar with the question types and strategies for the reading, listening, speaking, and writing sections.

Fifth, understanding the structure of the exam helps you to anticipate yor testing experience.  In addition, you should become more familiar with the common question types that appear on the different sections of the exam. Finally, you will need to learn the strategies, one of which you can learn here,  to answer those types of questions. I highly recommend that you take a full-length TOEFL iBT practice test so that you can

  • Improve your concentration while taking a three-hour English test.
  • Find your current TOEFL level.
  • Learn the structure of the TOEFL exam.
  • Apply the test-taking strategies you have learned to an realistic, authentic TOEFL practice test
