“Is there a word limit of 300 words on the TOEFL independent writing task?”

TOEFL iBT students,

I get many questions on a weekly basis,  ranging from “How do I prepare for the TOEFL exam?” to “How long will it take me to score 100?”  This time, I got the following question from an international student:

I´ve heard that the limit of words on the Indepedent Writing is 300.
Also, if is there something writen, the examiners simply “cut” and ignore it. Is this information true????

I´ll take the Toefl test next week and I´m pretty concerned about this subject.
