To meet his goal’s Esiquio studied off of Michael’s listening, pronunciation/speaking, and writing sections for three months.
For starters, with Michael’s listening section, Esiquio learned to catch the main ideas and important details of campus-related and academic listening passages. By learning how to take notes and practicing taking notes as he completed 40 + listening practice tests, Esiquio learned essential characteristics of natural speech by developing a note-taking system; such that it helped him complete many listening, speaking, and writing tasks. In addition, Esiquio picked up additional tips and tricks like: inferencing, idioms, negative expressions, getting the main idea, and understanding transitions with many listening lessons. Because of this, Esiquio had become better prepared for the integrated speaking and writing lessons in Michael’s 7 Step System.
In regards to his speaking capabilities, Esiquio had initially had trouble pronouncing his vowels and consonant sounds. In addition, he had trouble pronouncing words with appropriate stress and blending. For this reason, through Michael’s pronunciation section Esiquio watched pdf files, worked on speak clearly lessons, and did thousands of pronunciation drills enabling him to have extensive practice with vowel and consonants sounds and instruction in the stress, intonation, and pausing. Soon Esiquio improved his vowels and consonant sounds as well as his clarity in blending and stressing words. Moreover, as for Michael’s speaking section, Esiquio tested and further improved his ability to pronounce words in English correctly and clearly by working on many integrated and independent practice tests which tested Esiquio’s overall speaking competencies.
Besides his progressiveness in Michael’s speaking section, Esiquio began to compose excellent written responses in the writing section of Michael’s 7 Step System. By completing hundreds of skill-building exercises and a hand full of independent and integrated practice tests, Esiquio was able to learn basic and advanced sentence structures, verb tenses, word forms, word choice, parallel structures, and so on; thus improving his overall writing organization and complex sentence formation. In addition with feedback provided by iBT writing specialists, Esiquio was told how to improve his use of word choice, punctuation, and transitions! As a result, Esiquio began scoring 25/30 in writing practice tests and we noticed a large improvement in his academic writing.
