Step 4 – Analyze Your Listening Strengths and Weaknesses
The fourth step to successfully pass the TOEFL iBT Exam is learning to catch the main idea and important details of campus-related and academic listening passages. As you know, the TOEFL iBT has campus-related and academic discussions and lectures in the listening, speaking, and writing sections of the TOEFL iBT. If you have “slow” ears or you can not concentrate when listening to TOEFL iBT passages, you are guaranteed a low TOEFL iBT score. But this will not happen to you, will it?
“What do I get in TOEFL Listening Lesson 2?”
In more than 53 minutes of video intruction, you…
*Learn the characteristics of natural speech and why they are important to TOEFL iBT listening, speaking, and writing.*
*Learn how to identify interruptions, mistakes and corrections.*
*Learn how to identify conversation fillers which begin conversations, show agreement, end thoughts, show emphasis, change topics, and return to topics.*
*Learn how native speakers weaken or compress phrases during conversational English, and you get pronunciation and listening instruction in which you practice the long and reduced forms of more than 32 common phrases.*
*Complete listening dictation exercises in which you learn recognize the main points of statements despite distracting elements of natural speech during those audio recordings.*
*Get addresses of three must-know web sites to improve your TOEFL iBT listening skills. And guess what? These web sites are free! I will explain how and why you should be using each web site to practice your listening comprehension skills.*
“Just give me some listening practice tests!! Why all this discussion about
natural speech?”
My philosophy is this: “If I give you fish, you have food for a day. If I teach you how to fish, you have food for the rest of your life-time.” Like teaching you how to fish, I teach you how to listen, which is why TOEFL Listening Lessons 1 and 2 are so important. In TOEFL Lesson 2, I teach how to listen to natural speech which is quite common during TOEFL iBT listening passages. Improving your ability to listen to natural speech will help you to score higher during TOEFL iBT listening, speaking, and writing. Above all, after taking TOEFL Lesson 2, you will be able to function much better as a listener in academic, workplace, and conversational settings.
“Who are you and why are you qualified to teach this lesson?”
First, I have the education to back up my teaching you this lesson. My BA Degree is in Spanish, and I have an MA Degree in English Composition with an emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language. In fact, I wrote a 150 page book which demonstrates successful teaching techniques to increase the listening comprehension skills of non-native speakers. Second, I have taught more than 3000 hours of TOEFL preparation classes since 1994, and I have figured out a system that has helped thousands of students pass the TOEFL iBT. You can be one of these students! So, I hope you can see that I have the education and teaching experience that qualifies me to teach you this lesson.
“Do you have any “bonus” materials that might encourage me to buy this
lesson today?”
I sure do. If you buy this lesson today, you will also get a free E-book containing five listening practice tests.
*Each lecture is approximately 5 minutes long.*
*Each lecture is followed by 4-7 practice questions that test your listening comprehension skills.*
*You will get trancripts and answers for each lecture.*
*You get 20 minutes of academic listening practice for free.*
*The lecures focus on the following topics: John Adams, The Sun, Politeness Strategies, Gay Marriage, and The Physics of Airplane Flight

Thank you so much, this was very interesting. I was actually born in Madrid ( not telling you when though!) but was moved around various parts of europe and lastly settled in the UK when I was a teenager. I dont remember much of the few years I was in spain, but the smell of spanish food always seems to get me going or something. Funny, how I dont remember anything except the smells, isn’t it! I even found a internet site dedicated to spanish recipes, which gave me great delight and thought I ought to share. Anyway, thank you again. I’ll get my husband to add your cast to my rss thing…
