The reading, speaking, listening, and writing sections of the TOEFL iBT will throw many academic vocabulary words at you during the 4.5 hours of your reading, listening, speaking, and writing test-taking experience. After all, a lot is at stake when you are taking the TOEFL iBT, and, if you pass this test, it will open up windows of opportunity that you have never seen before. How will you react as you are confronted with thousands of TOEFL iBT vocabulary words during the different sections of the test?

If you have a good background, the TOEFL iBT vocabulary that you see will not be for the first time. This means, that, even though you may not know all the meanings of the these words, you will have seen them in different contexts. That you recognize the TOEFL iBT words significantly increases your chances of effectively using the context to figure out the meanings of these words. Ultimately, having the ability to recognize words allows you to spend more time on accurate reading and less time stumbling over unfamiliar words. And you know what that means: a very high TOEFL iBT score of which you can be proud!

Unfortunately, many, lacking a strong vocabulary foundation, are bombarded with unfamiliar words on the reading, listening, speaking, and writing parts of the TOEFL iBT. Therefore, they are seeing many new words, making it more difficult for them to use the context to figure out the meaning of these words. Additionally, some have knowledge of vocabulary, but they do not know how these words are pronounced. As a result, not recognizing the words on the listening, speaking, and writing sections, these test-takers are unable to accurately take notes.
