How do I choose which TOEFL learning path suits me?

Better TOEFL Scores is created by Michael Buckhoff, who is also the founder, owner, and materials writer for “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT.”  Buckhoff has built his 22 year teaching career helping international students improve their academic English proficiency so that these students will 1) score high on the TOEFL exam, 2) be able to function in English at a high level during their graduate and undergraduate classes, and 3) use spoken and written English confidently in professional and personal settings.

Buckhoff’s Online TOEFL Course “7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” offers several personalized learning paths for students who have not and have already taken the TOEFL iBT exam.

Students who have not taken the TOEFL exam

Students in this category are strongly encouraged to take a full-length TOEFL iBT four hour practice test so that they can 1) get a practice test score, including an overall score and subtotal scores in the reading, listening, speaking, and writing sections; 2) become familiar with the structure and format of the exam without having to pay $200 to take ETS’s version of the actual TOEFL iBT exam;  and 3) get experience, develop stamina and strength needed to concentrate in English for several hours in a single setting.  To take a practice test today, these students should click on the following link:

After taking a full-length TOEFL iBT practice test, these students can e-mail their results to Michael Buckhoff at Based on the results of the practice test and based on the target TOEFL scores and subtotal scores that students need, Buckhoff will recommend personalized learning paths to help these students reach their goals.

However, those students who refuse to take a full-length TOEFL iBT practice test will not know how long they will need to study before reaching the English proficiency needed to meet their target scores should subscribe to Buckhoff’s TOEFL course and unsubscribe when they think they no longer need intensive vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking practice. Students who have taken the TOEFL exam and have met their subtotal requirements except for either speaking or writing

Typically, these students need English for professional purposes such as clearing licenses in the healthcare industry. Moreover, these students have TOEFL scores as high or higher than 100, but they have not scored 26 or 24 on the speaking and writing sections of the exam.  Almost at the point of fossilization in their language use, these students are hard cases and have tried almost everything that they can think of. However, they still have not reach their required subtotal scores in the speaking or writing sections.

Those students who need to score 26 on the speaking section and have met their subtotal requirements on the reading, listening, and writing sections of the TOEFL exam should enroll in the 30-Day TOEFL Speaking Boot Camp Course:

Warning!!!!!!!!!!! This is a very intense course requiring you to submit pronunciation and speaking practice tests almost daily, so be prepared to spend 2-3 hours every day completing the lessons in this speaking course.

Other students have already met their subtotal requirements in the reading, listening, and speaking sections of the TOEFL exam, but they have not scored 24 points on the writing section of the exam.  Students in this case are advised to take the TOEFL Writing Boot Camp Course:

Beware!!!!!!!!!!! Like the TOEFL Speaking Boot Camp Course, this will require 2-3 hours of daily studying. It is hard work improving writing proficiency so students who complete this course will complete 17 writing practice tests over a 30 day period. That amounts to more than  6,800 words of writing. The TOEFL writing mentor who reads, evaluates, and scores the first independent and the first integrated writing practice test  will spend up to an hour reading, evaluating, scoring, and video correcting these two essays explaining what the writer needs to do in order to score perfectly on these writing tasks. This diagnostic writing analysis will help writers understand their strengths and weaknesses as writers so that they will learn what to do or not do during the writing section of the TOEFL exam.  Then, after the video corrections of their first two writing practice tests, these students will submit another 15 writing practice tests, this time getting a score of 0-30 points followed by some general feedback explaining why they received the score they did.
