Adriana R. is looking for an Online TOEFL Course with lessons to help her reach her academic goals.

Adriana has been searching for an Online TOEFL Course so that she can improve her score from 60 to 83, a needed improvement that would give her a scholarship to enter graduate studies in an American University.  Finally, she found a course called “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT”, and sent an E-mail to the course creator Michael Buckhoff:

Hi Michael

My name is Adriana Rincón and I am a student of Ph.D of science in Costa Rica. I need to improve my toefl scores. I presented toefl IBT on May of 2012 and I drew 60 points. I need to draw near 83 points to have a scholarship that allow to make a pasantia in U.S.A and improve my economical situation.

I drew the scores as I show: 16 in reading; 13 in listening; 14 in speaking; 17 in writing.

Please, help me to improve my english. How is your course? How much it cost? Explain me all about your course. I am interested to do it. I appreciate your support.

with regards

Adriana

Of course, Michael was excited to help another TOEFLer, and, since he has already taught many students whose TOEFL scores were right around 61, he knew exactly what to say to her:

Adriana,

Thank you for contacting me.

My Online TOEFL Course consists of 330 lessons in seven key areas: vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Offered currently at a cost of $35.00 per month, my Online TOEFL Course is entirely online at a password and username protected web site.  The practice tests and quizzes in the vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening sections are computer-scored so you can see your progress immediately.

Finally. based on your current score of 60 and your needing to score higher than 83, you will most likely need my service for 3 months. On average my online TOEFL students improve their score between 5-10 points for each month that they use my service.  Thank you for contacting me, and I would like to invite you to become one of my newest students.

If you are ready to reach your TOEFL goals by working hard, I am ready to guide you through your journey.

Thanks,

Michael

To sum up, now Adriana R. has some thinking to do: “Is this course right? Will Michael be able to help me succeed?’  Adriana certainly thinks that Michael is qualified and has the lessons that she will need to get better.  In addition, she likes that fact that she can have her pronunciation, speaking, and writing practice tests scored online from an iBT TOEFL speaking and writing specialist with more than 18 years of teaching experience. How do you put a price tag on that.  So, she will throw caution to the wind and join the online course now.

Kaz completes an essay in his Online TOEFL Course and scores 5.0/5.0 or 30/30 points.

After joining an Online TOEFL Course called “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT,” Kaz has been working hard to get ready for his upcoming TOEFL exam.  He has mowed through the vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, listening, and reading sections of the course effortlessly.  On the other hand, he is taking more time during the writing and speaking sections of the course since these are his weaker sections of the test. Morever, Kaz wants to score higher than 26 and 24 on the speaking and writing sections of the exam.  Here is his latest writing practice test that he sent to his TOEFL iBT writing mentor Michael Buckhoff.

Writing Task: Advances in transportation and communication like the airplane and telephone have changed the way that nations interact with each other in a global society. Choose another technological innovation that you think is important. Give specific reason for your choice.

Response:

Today’s world is highly advanced and well equipped with latest technology in almost every field. Every day there is a new discovery or invention in science that is making our lives way easier today than yesterday. Apart of airplanes and telephones, Internet has also hit the society with enormous benefits. Moreover, with the development of computers and Internet humans have reached to another footstep of high-tech life. Through Internet people are nowadays more connected by an easiest and fastest means. Furthermore, it not only has influenced the business economy positively but also brought  a scientific access to education via online learning system.

Firstly, The Internet is one of the amazing technologies because it has made communication quicker and easier. People instead of writing letters can email each other, which only takes seconds to send. For example, in case to inform urgently someone a person does not need to send a telegram and then wait for the next 2-3 days so it can be delivered by the postal services. But now it only needs a simple click to the send icon after typing the message on computer.

Secondly, it has brought a lot of positive outcome to the business sector as well. An employee can arrange a client meeting online through internet access. Also, it provides the facility of conference calls so even a whole group can interact in the meeting. This has saved a lot of time from traveling and to be physically presenting at place instead it can be done by sitting on his office chair. This time can be consumed in another office work, which can raise the company’s profits.

Finally, Internet is a good education source too. Students can participate in the online courses and distant learning programs. This not only beneficial for the international students but also for local students, who are not able to acquire regular classes because of their work or taking care of the family. I, myself availed this opportunity when I had a baby and not able to leave her for the regular classes. At that time, the internet based course helped me in pursuing my real estate certification.

To sum up, in my view Internet is one of the biggest innovations of modern science for communication. As mentioned above, it has brought privilege of fast interaction, profitable economy and enhanced education system.

Of course, Michael was delighted to read one of his student’s essay, and he was taken back at the quality of the writing.  Being highly polished, displaying syntactic variety, having a coherent organization, exhibiting depth and complexity of thought, this raw gem will receive the perfect score even though it has a few minor errors.  “It does not get much better than this,” Michael thought.

Great job Kaz!

After joining her Online TOEFL Course, Letha has questions about the integrated writing task.

Letha, who joined an Online course called “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT,” got her required mark of 26/30 on the speaking section of the exam but only received 21/30 on the writing section, 3 points shy of her requirement.  So, she is hell-bent on figuring out how to organize the integrated writing task. Enough is enough! Letha has many more important things in her life to accomplish like starting her pharmacy job in the United States, so she will conquer the TOEFL iBT if it is the last thing she does in her life while she is alive.  Here is a question that she asked her TOEFL writing mentor this week:

I have a doubt about an integrated writing task question.

In the reading passage it states  about the three reasons for the Rome ‘s growth  ( Army, Emperors and Tax) and the lecture starts with in similar way these 3 same factors lead to Rome’s fall

The lecture explains how these factors lead to down fall in a different way.

As an example the in reading it said the army was small in Rome and they made it big by taking some soldiers from the enemy so since the army was big it helped for it’s growth and the lecture states these Army lead to down fall since the soldiers were from enemy they were not loyal. Similar way other 2 more fators. So my question is here I should write as a contrast or similar. I got confused with the first wording in the lecture as “similarly these 3 same fators lead to Rome’s Fall”.So I wrote as similarly as the transition word in three paragraph, but later I felt in the opposite way. This is my experience on the 8th June ToeflExam. So write away before the result I started preparing for the next test.

And here is the response her TOEFL writing mentor gave her:

Based on your question, I would organize the writing in the following way.

The reading passages explains three critical factors leading to Rome’s Growth, whereas the listening passage shows how these factors unfortunately led to Rome’s decline.

According to the reading passage three important factors caused Rome to prosper: factor A, B, and C. Factor A caused Rome to flourish……In addition to factor A, factor B was also important in helping Rome because….Finally, factor C was also critical to Rome’s growth in that….

On the other hand, the listening passage illustrates how these three factors were equally important to Rome’s downfall. Even though factor A was important…., it also caused Rome to fall because….. Like factor A, factor B negatively affected Rome in the sense that…Lastly, factor C, like factor A and B, also had negative consequences to the Roman empire since….

In conclusion, as it evident in the reading passage and the lecture, factor A, B, and C were important both in positively and negatively impacting one of strongest empires ever known to mankind.

Jackson is looking for a TOEFL Course to help him improve his score from 72 to 80 points.

Jackson, needing a higher score so he can enter a graduate program in the United States, is searching for a Online TOEFL Course to help him improve his score from 72 to 80.  After using the various search engines such as Google and Yahoo, he eventually landed on a web page advertising a course called “The 7-step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT.”  Liking how comprehensive the course is in that it covers vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, reading, listening, writing, and speaking, Jackson was excited to join this course, but he had two questions:  “What kind of personal feedback will you give me after I complete the writing and speaking practice tests.”

Concerning writing,  founder, owner, and materials writers of “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” Michael Buckhoff informed Jackson that he would provide him written feedback each time he took an independent and integrated writing practice test which would 1) give him a score, 2) explain why,  3) point out any particularly troublesome areas of the writing, and 4) recommend specific lessons that he review to strengthen this writing. For example, if Jackson were having problems creating a sharply-focused thesis, Michael would recommend that he study TOEFL Writing Lesson 2.  Michael also informed Jackson that there was an additional error correction service Jackson could use if he wanted to have all of the errors corrected in each essay that he wrote.

Michael then explained that, after Jackson had completed a pronunciation or speaking practice test, he would provide audio or video feedback each time Jackson completed a pronunciation or speaking practice test.  Furthermore, the feedback would 1) give him a score, 2) explain why, 3) point out possible problems with delivery, grammar and language use, and topic development, and 4) recommend specific lessons that Jackson review in order to strengthen his TOEFL speaking. Case in point, if Michael noticed that Jackson were having problems organizing his speaking tasks, Michael would recommend that he study TOEFL Speaking Lesson 7, which explains four techniques that Jackson can use to make his speaking responses coherent.

Here is a video which explains in more detail exactly what Michael said to Jackson:

After watching the video, Jackson was beginning to understand how an online TOEFL course worked, and he liked that Michael took the time to answer his questions by way of video.  Jackson had a better picture how “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” worked, and he knew that he could always go to the FAQ’s page for the online course if he had more questions.

After scoring 55/120 and then two months later 74/120, Allan decides it is time to subscribe to a TOEFL course to reach his goal of 90/120.

Allan is looking for a TOEFL course to continue in his battle to score at least 90/120. Like most TOEFLers, Allan, a native of Brazil, is studying hard so that he can meet the TOEFL requirements to start his PhD program in Computer Science in Canada.  Thus far, he has taken the TOEFL iBT two times.

He first took the TOEFL iBT on January 28th and scored 55/120: Reading = 10, Listening = 11, Speaking = 14, and Writing = 20.  Lower than he thought it should have been, his low score awakened a sleeping giant within his soul, and for two months Allan worked furiously to improve his academic English proficiency.  On April 19, he retook the TOEFL iBT, this time scoring an impressive 74/120: Reading = 18, Listening = 16,  Speaking = 18, and Writing = 22.  “I think that I could have achieved more than 18 in the reading section,” says Allan, “if I could manage my time better.”  Had he not become tired, which caused him to lose his concentration, Allan thinks he could have done much better on the listening passage.  We can always do better, right?  Have you ever met a TOEFLer who is 100% completely satisfied with his/her results?

Having realized the sweet taste of success, Allan knows that his goal of scoring 90+ is within reach of his finger tips. But he needs someone or something to take him to the next level. Therefore, he landed on the Better TOEFL Scores web page in search of an online TOEFL service. He E-mailed founder and materials writer Michael, and asked, “Based on the last score what advice could you give me? I would like to reach this score in a period of three months.”  Before E-mailing Michael, Allan had watched some of Michael’s promotional videos and thought that “The 7-Step to Pass the TOEFL iBT” could help him reach his goals. Also, in the E-mail to Michael, Allan said that he wanted to reach a score of 90 within a 3-month period.

Michael carefully thought about Allan’s questions and the possibility of his reaching his target score of 90/120.  Michael was inspired by something Allan said, “My goal now is to achieve at least 90; I think that, if I put this goal in my mind, it is more easy to reach 80.” Yes, Allan was raising his own standards, trying to reach an even higher score than he was required to meet.  That he had this type of mindset made Michael think that Allan had all the necessary ingredients to improve his academic English proficiency: time, motivation, and a willingness to practice.

Here is the You Tube video that Michael sent to Allan:

TOEFL iBT Writing: How well do you control your sentence structure?

To Michael’s S.T.E.A.L.T.H. students,

To score well on the TOEFL iBT independent and integrated writing tasks, you need coherently organize your ideas, support them with appropriate details, and minimize the number of sentence structure, grammar, and mechanical errors.  Furthermore, to help you minimize your sentence structure errors, you need to have control over your sentence constructions, making sure you know when one sentence ends and when a new sentence begins. “But how do I exhibit control over my sentence structure, Michael?” you ask.

The most important way to do this is to have a clear understanding of commas, semi-colons, colons, dashes, hyphens, periods, question marks, and exclamation points. Therefore, to gain mastery in these important areas make sure to study TOEFL Grammar Lessons 2, 3, and 4, and then take some independent and integrated writing practice tests so you can practice what you have been studying. Practice makes perfect, right?

www.bettertoeflscores.com Michael Buckhoff, founder of the 7 Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT, reads, evaluates, and scores an essay written by one of his TOEFL iBT students. Hi Michael, I am submitting my second essay.I timed it and wrote. It took exact 30 minutes. But I didn’t get time to revise. But I am thrilled to know my score. Tell me the score as in ToefliBT. In general people are living longer now. Discuss the cause of this phenomenon. Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay. It is sure that people are living longer now. There are advantage and disadvantage because of this. I feel the main factor is, people are more aware about the health issues. Medias are giving good publicity about the importants of being healthy, and what all precautions are needed to maintain healthy life. Being healthy is good for the person, good for the country, and good for the society. Among all these, I feel the most important factors which helps people to live longer are advance in medical technology, Easy access to hospital, and more knowledge in people First of all the advance in medical technology made a drastic change in human life. We are able to diagnose a disease earlier and in addition able to treat it. For instance, now in USA those who are having a insurance policy can have a free medical check up every year. If the doctor feel any doubt about breast cancer for the patient, immediately he recommend the patient the do a mammography. This advance in technology
